How to Set Up Google Meet

Maryland Anxiety and Depression Treatment Center uses Google Meet for telemedicine appointments. We use Meet because it is fully-encrypted and compliant with HIPAA practices to protect your privacy during conferences. Setting up Meet isn’t hard! You’ll just need a Google account and, if you’re using a smart phone or tablet, the right app.

Step 1: Set up a Google Account:

If you use Gmail: You already have a Google account - you can skip this step!

If you don’t use Gmail: Go to https://accounts.google.com/signup to create an account. You can either create a new Gmail account or click “Use My Current Email Address Instead” to create an account using your e-mail address.

Step 2: Set up your device:

If you are using a Windows or Apple computer: Meet will work in all major internet browsers, so you don’t need to install any software. You will need to have a webcam and a microphone, though! On your main internet browser, click here to sign in to your Google account. Now you’re ready for our appointment!

If you are using an iPhone or iPad: You will need to install the Google Meet app, which is available here. Once the app is installed, run it. You will be asked permission for the app to access your camera and microphone; please choose “allow” in both cases. You will also be asked to sign in to your Google account. Now you’re ready for our appointment!

If you are using an Android device: You will need to install the Google Meet app, which is available here. Once the app is installed, run it. You will be asked to sign in to your Google account. You will also be asked permission for the app to access your camera and microphone; please choose “allow” in both cases. Now you’re ready for our appointment!

Step 3: Enter a chat:

Just before our appointment starts, I will send an e-mail with the subject “Meet Invite.” The first line will start with “Meeting URL” followed by a link. Click that link on the device you will be using, and our appointment will begin. Please choose “allow” if your computer or device asks you to grant Google Meet any permissions the first time you use it.
