Medication Management
The decision to take medications can be scary. We've all seen the way psychiatric medications are depicted in movies. The good news is that this doesn't reflect peoples' real experience with psychiatric medications. When the right medication is given at the right dose, it can reduce and even eliminate the symptoms of a mental illness. We are dedicated to using medications judiciously, not over-medicating or giving a dosing schedule that is more complicated than necessary. We do not require all of our patients to take medications, and are happy to provide regular monitoring for patients who choose not to take any medication.
We are trained and experienced in the use of many different types of antidepressants, including Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhbitors (SSRIs), Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRIs), Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs), Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs), and several others. We are also trained and experienced in the use of mood stabilizers, anti-anxiety medications, and many other varieties of medication. All treatment plans are customized to the individual and their needs.
Medication Management may be provided alone in 25-minute appointments or along with formal psychotherapy in 50-minute appointments.
Talk Therapy (Psychotherapy)
There are many different forms of talk therapy, and each is tailored to people with specific sets of problems. We have training in many types of talk therapy, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapies including Object Relations and Self Psychology, and Supportive Psychotherapy. We know that everyone we meet is different and has different needs, and therapy may consist of one or several different techniques in order to meet those needs.
Psychotherapy is provided in 50-minute appointments.
